The National Database Search casts a very wide net and it is a valuable part of any criminal background check but it is never recommended as the primary or only resource for conducting criminal background checks. It is simply a valuable complimentary tool for conducting a more thorough search at the county courthouse level.

The Multi-state criminal background check which includes a 50 state Sex Offender Registry check and Terrorist WATCH are compiled from multiple public record data sources. National Employment Screening Inc. makes no claims to the completeness of this data or that data from all states or jurisdictions is included. Records contained in reports compiled from these databases may not contain complete or accurate or the most current or sufficient identifying information to be considered reliable and should not be used to recommend or not recommend any individual for employment.

Reports from these types of searches are NOT FCRA COMPLIANT and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has issued an opinion letter specifically on the use of criminal databases and has taken the position that database searches do not comply with FCRA but could be used as a pre-screening tool to "generate leads," and should be used for that purpose only and that using information of this type for employment purposes violates Section 613(a)(2) of the Fair Credit Reporting Act.

However, for example, California and Illinois provide records from only about 50% of the counties in the state but since these include the largest and most populous counties as many as 80% of the criminal records are actually included in the results.

Nationwide (Multi-State) Criminal background Search
This search provides results from all available criminal and national security databases. Currently about 44 states supply this data. (The sex offender registry check that is included in this report includes a check of the sex offender registry from 50 states.)

These reports do not include all data from every county in the reporting states.

The results of this search typically do not include any details of the reported offense. It is recommended that any results obtained from this search be confirmed through a County Criminal Search, which will also provide a greater level of detail.
